Scout is a twelve foot long autonomous robotic boat designed to cross the Atlantic Ocean, relying only on pre-programmed commands and information that it can collect about its environment through sensors. It is built to deal with anything the ocean can throw at it, and its status will be reported live online. Check out the components page to see what makes Scout work.
While the project started in February of 2011, we're planning to launch June 9th, 2012. Check the blog for the most recent updates.

SCOUT: The Autonomous Transatlantic Boat

Scout would not be possible without the generous support of our contributors and our flagship sponsor, Jamestown Distributors.

Jamestown Distributors

Jamestown Distributors is a marine supply company that we've all been using since the early days of our boating careers, and chances are that if you own a boat and live in the northeast, you've bought products from them as well. While their strong catalog and reasonable prices made JD our boating supply company of choice, our favorite offering is their online knowledgebase, which offers how-to documents, tutorials, and 1,226 videos covering topics from how to splice line to fishing advice and instructions on building your own carbon fiber skimboard.

The other thing that we love about Jamestown Distributors is that their support is excellent. When's the last time that a customer service representative offered to FaceTime with you?

We're very excited to have the support of Jamestown Distributors for Scout, and if you take a look at some of the comments left on their Facebook page, you'll see why it's not only their catalog, but the community that they've developed, that makes what we consider to be the best boating supply company in the country.
